Sick Child

Sick Child Policy

Parents are asked to keep their child at home if they have any infection, and to inform staff at GetWise as to the nature of the illness so that other parents can be made aware if appropriate (e.g. chickenpox). In addition the staff can make observations of any child who seems unwell.

Parents are asked not to bring any child into GetWise who has been sick or had diarrhoea until at least 48 hours has elapsed since the last attack.

Cuts or open sores, whether on adults or children must be covered with sticky plaster or other dressings.

If a child is on prescribed medication the child’s parent is required to administer this prior to arriving at GetWise

The staff will administer inhalers as necessary, or give drugs for behaviour control or a health threatening condition such as diabetes.  Drugs will be stored in the appropriate manner and safely out of reach of the children.  Parents will be required to complete a Medication Form.

If a child becomes unwell whilst at GetWise, we will immediately contact parents/carers on the emergency contact numbers held on record. The child is comforted and remains in the close care of a member of staff.

In the event of the Supervisor, or member of staff in charge, being unable to make contact with the parents/carers and any of the emergency numbers, permission has been given in the signing of the registration form for any doctor to undertake whatever treatment is deemed necessary for the child in the event of an emergency.
