Outings

Outings Policy

Children at GetWise have the opportunity to take part in a vast range of outdoor activities. We primarily use the TA Centre, Queens Park, Walton Dam, Poolesbrook, Ogston Reservoir and Chesterfield Town Centre.

Staff child ratio is 1:8

Volunteer staff child ratio is 1:4

The supervisor will however use their discretion to ensure the childrens’ requirements are always met.

We have agreed procedures for the safe conduct of outings. A blanket consent form must be signed before children are permitted to attend any outing. Children are required to wear a high visibility jacket and/or cap and/or t-shirt if requested.

A risk assessment is carried out before an outings takes place.

Named children are assigned to individual staff to ensure each child is individually supervised.

Staff take a mobile phone on outings and supplies of tissues, wipes, water and a first aid kit. The amount of kit will vary and be consistent with the venue and how long they will be out for.

Outings are recorded in an outings record book stating:

  • The date and time of the outing
  • The venue and mode of transport
  • The names of staff assigned to named children
  • Time of return
