Failure to Collect Child

Failure to Collect Child Policy

This policy is in place to clearly state what would happen should a parent or carer fail to collect a child at the appropriate time.

In the event that a child is not collected by an authorised adult we will ensure that the child receives a high standard of care in order to cause as little distress as possible

After 20 minutes the Supervisor will contact the parent.  Should this fail, the emergency contact numbers will be tried.

Under no circumstances are staff to go and look for the parents nor do they take the child home with them.

After 60 minutes the Supervisor will contact Social Services

  • The Supervisor will continue to attempt to contact the parents/carers and emergency contact numbers leaving appropriate message.
  • During this time, the child will be safely cared for by the Supervisor or person in charge
  • A full report of the incident is recorded on the child’s file

NOTE:  should the Supervisor be unable to carry out the above process another member of staff will do so.
