Cross Curriculum Days

GetWise run full activity days to suit numerous needs, such as cross curriculum days, deep learning days and team building days. We also link activity days together to produce a themed series of events with a specific aim such as building self esteem.

Below is an example list of ideas that your school might choose to look at for a deep learning day based around sustainable living. The full sheet with all of these ideas and further thinking is available on request - just contact us and tell us what you are doing!

  • Make a greenhouse from plastic bottles
  • Demonstrate how to create fire and explore and carry out practical experiments into its many uses
  • Arrange for a wild food walk and discuss seasonal variations of wild food and how we can use it today.
  • Show the film - Age of Stupid, but if not - An Inconvenient Truth or End of Suburbia.
  • Deliver a scrap heap challenge day, looking at recycling and how our waste can be re-used.
  • Demonstrate best practice sustainable living and discuss choices
  • Go on a trip to Hockerton Housing Project - Nottinghamshire.
  • Look at the 'dirty' oil business - exploitation/war etc.
  • Look at the global warming situation and the fact that it is speeding up so fast and faster than all predictions.
  • Live a day in the life of a sustainable future
  • Look at supermarkets and the difference between supporting your local economy and big businesses.
  • Build a model village to see what the future could look like in their locality.
  • Look at what crops are suitable for when
  • Make African style toys from recycled materials. Have you seen those steerable cars?
  • Learn simple carving techniques and create toys/objects from scrap wood.

Our personal favourite from this list was the Scrap Heap Challenge day we ran with 70 pupils... the weather was fantastic and the huge catapults the pupils made from wood and metal were amazing! Just remember, this is a simple list that can go on and on and on...

For Team Building days, how about a “prison break” with problem solving, town trails, loads of transport and tasters into local community services before a final dash for freedom over enemy water?

Or, perhaps be prepared to take part in loads of activities including...

  • Orienteering
  • Shelter building
  • Fire lighting
  • Gourmet cooking
  • River crossings
  • Searching for hidden food!
  • Staying hidden!
  • Blind drops!

We pride ourselves in coming up with the ideas to match your group, so give us a call and see what we can come up with!
